چکیده

We analyze the well-posedness of a flow-plate interaction considered in [22, 24]. Specifically, we consider the Kutta-Joukowski boundary conditions for the flow [20, 28, 26], which ultimately give rise to a hyperbolic equation in the half-space (for the flow) with mixed boundary conditions. This boundary condition has been considered previously in the lowerdimensional interactions [1, 2], and dramatically changes the properties of the flow-plate interaction and requisite analytical techniques. We present results on well-posedness of the fluid-structure interaction with the KuttaJoukowsky flow conditions in force. The semigroup approach to the proof utilizes an abstract setup related to that in [16] but requires (1) the use of a Neumann-flow map to address a Zaremba type elliptic problem and (2) a trace regularity assumption on the acceleration potential of the flow. This assumption is linked to invertibility of singular integral operators which are analogous to the finite Hilbert transform in two dimensions. (We show the validity of this assumption when the model is reduced to a two dimensional flow interacting with a one dimensional structure; this requires microlocal techniques.) Our results link the analysis in [16] to that in [1, 2]. Key terms: flow-structure interaction, nonlinear plate, nonlinear semigroups, well-posedness, mixed boundary conditions, Possio integral equation, finite Hilbert transform.

Two-Dimensional and Axisymmetric Unsteady Flows due to Normally Expanding or Contracting Parallel Plates

The flow of a viscous incompressible fluid between two parallel plates due to the normal motion of the plates for two cases, the two-dimensional flow case and the axisymmetric flow case, is investigated. The governing nonlinear equations and their associated boundary conditions are transformed into a highly non-linear ordinary differential equation. The series solution of the problem is obtaine...

A Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).

This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...

Existence and Stability of Multidimensional Transonic Flows through an Infinite Nozzle of Arbitrary Cross-sections

We establish the existence and stability of multidimensional steady transonic flows with transonic shocks through an infinite nozzle of arbitrary cross-sections, including a slowly varying de Laval nozzle. The transonic flow is governed by the inviscid potential flow equation with supersonic upstream flow at the entrance, uniform subsonic downstream flow at the exit at infinity, and the slip bo...

A Zonal Euler/viscous Solver for Compressible Flows

We present a CFD zonal solver which efficiently simulates compressible viscous flows by reducing the computational cost through the use of a lower fidelity model, the Euler equations of inviscid flow, in regions where the flow is not dominated by viscous effects. This strategy also guarantees an acceptable level of accuracy. The design process can be accelerated if adequate solvers are used wit...
